Summary

If an hour and a half of battery life is enough for your needs and you are going to use it somewhere in a warm climate or on sunny days, then maybe it's a good buy. But I would definitely not recommend it for a harsh climate with cloudy weather.

Got this solar rechargeable LED lamp to add some reserve source of light in case of a power outage.

The seller advertised the lamp can work up to 4 hours after solar charging the whole day, so I decided that this might fit my needs.

The lamp is made of plastic and looks relatively cheap, but that's exactly what I expect from cheap electronics for this price.

On the back side, it has a charging port and a button to turn on/off the lamp. You can hang it up on the ceiling or furniture using a hook on the lamp.

The bulb can be easily disassembled so we can see that there is a charging module, a small rechargeable battery, and a plate with a few LEDs.

It seems like the solar panel is waterproof, but not sure how long it will last under rain or snow.

The LEDs are powered by an 800mAh battery inside the lamp. It recharges via a standard DC 5V cable connected to the solar panel. I got this lamp at the end of November and it's already pretty cold in my area, there is no sun during the day and the first snow has just fallen. After recharging the lamp with the solar panel placed behind a window on an overcast day, I decided to test the battery life. I turned on the lamp and it was shining brightly for only 10 minutes, then the brightness decreased to the state that you barely can see anything in the room.

What a disappointment! So my first conclusion is that the lamp is almost useless in overcast weather.

But can you recharge the lamp via a USB power adapter? I found a small USB to DC cable, connected the lamp to a mobile phone charger, and charged it for a few hours.

There is a small blue led that glows when the lamp is charging, however, it doesn't turn off when the battery is charged, so there is no way to know when the charging is completed.

After recharging the lamp via a DC adapter, I tested it again. The lamp glowed brightly for 1h 30 minutes then the brightness become much weaker and the battery lasted for 6 more hours.

But these 6 hours the light was so weak that it was almost useless as I was barely able to see anything in the room. Looks far from what the seller advertised, isn't it? Basically, it is useful only for 1h30min after being fully recharged by a DC adapter. It is pretty bright during this time, I can easily work or do my household chores in such conditions.

Still, if an hour and a half of battery life is enough for your needs and you are going to use it somewhere in a warm climate or on sunny days, or maybe use a power adapter to charge it from a socket or a power bank, then maybe it's a good buy. But I would definitely not recommend it for a harsh climate with cloudy weather.
